Subscribers and followers, brand-new and hipster-level-found-it-before-it-was-cool alike, come say hi!
(It's not cool.) Also, haiku and a cat video
Reminder: the giveaway for a copy of my chapbook (read the details here, but the TLDR is you have to say something nice about yourself to enter) ends October 1
The title pretty much sums up the point of this post.
I have done one of these before* and it was so lovely to meet my readers. My audience has grown since then, but whether you are new or took a chance on me from the beginning— which was just earlier this year, I am aware— you are super welcome to breeze into the comments and tell me something about yourself, or a writer you adore, or your deepest, darkest feat. Whatever you feel like!
I look forward to making your acquaintance, people who are currently just screen names!
Of course, because this is a poetry stack?blog?newsletter?, I also offer up a brief poem below.
*Who am I? Here is that introductory post I mentioned! What is this substack, anyway? Check out my about page! More questions? You are welcome to ask them!
Haiku
I let myself be the Icarus to your sun for the chance to fly. To meet Apollo, I risked it all and got too close but still: I flew.
And now I’ll wrap this up with a video of my cat teaching herself to play fetch:
I enjoy your poems and writing, Maia! I love to drum and be in drum circles, and Joy Harjo and Gary Snyder are two of my favorite poets. Keep on shining!
I adore this, you and Kafka on the Shore! Murakami is an absolute favourite of time. And now you’ve given me another idea for a poem…👌🏽
